Mischa Barton On ‘Beautiful Life’ Cancellation: The Best Was Yet To Come

Mischa Barton’s “The Beautiful Life” may have been short-lived, but the actress said the canceled CW series showed a lot of promise. In fact, she says, the best was yet to come.

“We were really such a great show and the first two episodes were nothing. We shot amazing, big episodes – episodes four, five and six – and it’s stuff that no one will ever see,” she told Access Hollywood at Monday night’s Whitney Museum gala in New York City.

“But they were unable to bring in an audience to it. It’s like they’ve got two other franchises going on there at the same time, and we got swallowed up,” she added of The CW. “It’s more their loss, I think. It could’ve been I think a really, really cool show.”

And while the show may not have survived very long, Mischa said she was appreciative of the fans who hopped on board the “Beautiful” bandwagon while they could.

“It was really sweet after [the show was canceled] because all these people Twittered the next day, like 10,000 people Twittered trying to save the show and stuff,” Mischa continued. “It reminded me how important the core fan base is. Whatever bulls**t gets written, you know you’ve got fans out there who care.”

As for Mischa herself, who said she is “moving on” and looking at various film and TV scripts, following the series’ cancellation, she is enjoying adjusting to life spent on the East Coast.

“I’m loving it!” she said of staying in New York. “All my girlfriends live here, so it’s nice to be bi-coastal and just go back and forth. I’m not giving up on Los Angeles, of course, but you know.”

Mischa Barton, More Shake Up Whitney Gala

When Mischa Barton rolls into the Whitney Museum of American Art Gala held Monday in NYC, she doesn’t stay long. The former O.C. star makes a mad dash outside for a cigarette with a glamorous blonde friend 45 minutes later.

Smoking is a needed vice for the 23-year-old who saw her TV dreams resurrected and destroyed when The Beautiful Life was canceled last month.

“Before I was looking to make that show interesting, and that’s why it sucks that no one’s going to see the best episodes of it,” she says. “And now I’m changing course and what I feel like doing is a really interesting, young woman role.”

She continues, “I’m keeping my options open, obviously, but it’s too early to say [what's next]. I don’t know what it’s going to be – I have to read through tons of scripts. You have no idea what an ordeal it is before you agree to something.”

Getting gym time with girlfriends keeps her spirits up. “I work out at Equinox,” she says. “Equinox is the best. It’s got everything. I do all kinds of stuff.”

Mischa Barton Says TV’s Not for Her

Her show The Beautiful Life was cancelled almost before it began, but that didn’t stop Mischa Barton from resuming her own beautiful life on Monday night at a party in New York City.

Demonstrating that she’d regained her model figure with a Versace gown at the Whitney Museum Gala, Barton, 23, said she doesn’t mind not working for the small screen anymore.

“I think I need to back away from the whole TV approach,” she said. “That whole world of network television, probably isn’t, for me, a good idea now. I need to start reading for more serious roles.”

But she’s not sure exactly what the next project will be.

“It’s too early to tell yet,” she said. “I’m passing on all the [early] offers, because that’s not the stuff you want to do. I want to go fight for interesting things and look for something that’s going to be interesting for me … as a role.”

For now, her focus is on her body – she said she regularly works out with girlfriends – and on embracing life in Gotham.

“Reading scripts and enjoying living in New York,” she said, calling her break from work “lovely.” “Now that I’m not doing the TV show, I’ve got lots of time to work out.”

2009 Whitney Museum Gala

Photos of Mischa at the 2009 Whitney Museum Gala have been uploaded. She looks beautiful in what I assume is a Versace dress. Her hair looks particularly stunning, this is how they should have styled her for her Herbal Essences work!

The OC Stills

With the extreme lack of anything new, I went through my archive and spotted some OC stills that haven’t been uploaded. The following albums have been updated with some additional shots:
- Episode 312 The Sister Act

Episode 325 The Graduates

Mischa loves NY

Mischa Barton says she’s staying in New York even though her show, “The Beautiful Life,” got canned. At the Sony Vaio launch at Guastavino, Barton said, “I grew up in the city, so there’s a lot to love about it. All my close friends are here. I feel it’s a fun city to lay low in and you get treated right.” About her next career move, she said, “There’s a bunch of projects I always wanted to make, so I’m going back to thinking about things again. I just started looking at films.” NY Post

Interview with Mischa Barton at the Sony Vaio L Touch Launch

Not only did Sony debut the Vaio L Touch, it also debuted the world’s lightest Notebook (yup, lighter than MacBook Air): the X Series. Enchased in a lightweight carbon-fiber chassis, the X Series weighs just 1.6 pounds (with standard battery) and is just over a half-inch thin- roughly the width of a cell phone.

And guess who else apart from Peter Facinelli, Jill Zarin and Star Jones came to salute the new tech launches? Mischa Barton!

She looked absolutely stunning in a biker-chic, laid back “I’m a bad gal” way with her miniskirt, leather jacket and ankle-length boots.

BD: What brings you here?

MB: Honestly, I’m not very computer savvy, I don’t really go online much on Twitter. But I love computers.

BD: What’s next for you now?

MB: Well, I’m just looking at projects and scripts (note that the actress was going to be a lead in The Beautiful Life on CW when the network cut the show) and looking at films. And Ashton (Kutcher, who was the show’s producer) was so great about the whole thing.

BD: So would you move back to LA?

MB: No, I live in the city, I love NYC!

Note: at this point Mischa was whisked away by her publicist, but she looked great and her skin was glowing and flawless. I was going to ask her about her favorite beauty products…but ah well, there will be a next time!

Mischa Barton for Planet Call

“Later is too late,” for action on climate change, says actress Mischa Barton

planet

Later is too late for action on climate change, actress Mischa Barton warned global youth today as she encouraged them to take action – starting by signing a Declaration for an ambitious new climate treaty at www.PlanetCall.org and stating their “Call”  for the solutions they want to see implemented. “Join me in calling for immediate action to protect our planet at PlanetCall.org. Later is too late,” says Barton.

No newcomer to the devastating impact of climate change on the developing world, the 23-year-old former “OC” star’s commercial and theatrical success has given her the opportunity to speak out on pressing global issues. Previously, she has been a spokesperson for “Climate Star,” an organization that fights global warming through social and legislative activism. She is also an ambassador for the “One Water” campaign, which brings water to remote locations in Africa, and for “Save the Children” who she worked with in India for a month.

“Having an influential and compassionate young star like Mischa Barton support PlanetCall, and its aim of engaging global youth on climate change, at what is an absolutely critical time for our planet, will be pivotal to engaging even more young people whose futures depend on the success or failure of the decision-makers who will meet in Copenhagen this December,” said scientist and author Tim Flannery, Chair of the Copenhagen Climate Council, one of the founders of the PlanetCall initiative.

He added: “Our goal is simple. A unified global youth voice on climate change to secure an ambitious binding treaty at COP15. Sign the Declaration and help us reach our goal of reaching 1 million signatures. Young people from 100 countries have already signed. What we now need, with just two months until the UN Climate Change Conference, is the persuasive power of many, so I hope that many more people from all parts of the globe will log on and sign today, encouraging their family and friends to do the same.”

Also endorsed by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Connie Hedegaard, Danish Minister for Climate and Energy and host of COP15, among others, the PlanetCall initiative was launched at the World Business Summit on Climate Change in Copenhagen, in May 2009, an event headlined by Al Gore, Yvo de Boer, and Cate Blanchett. The PlanetCall Declaration will be handed over to decision-makers at COP15 in December.

PlanetCall is an invitation to young people to become co-architects of their future. PlanetCall is about sustainable solutions, and young people’s willingness to embrace a low-carbon future. This is exactly what is needed to foster innovation and sustainable solutions. On PlanetCall, you demonstrate your willingness to take part in building this sustainable future by doing three things: signing the Declaration; posting a Call; and forwarding on, asking all those you know to do the same.
