Sometimes you just gotta love Twitter! A few days ago, along with the help of Mischa fan Xavi, I noticed writer Ben Trebilcook bring up Mischa’s name in conjunction with a new movie project that we hadn’t heard about called Knockout. I thought I’d try my luck and contact Ben, to see if I could get a few details on the project, thinking that I’d either get no reply or just a few words. Amazingly, Ben replied with a vast amount of information regarding the project so here is the Q&A that came about:
Big thanks to writer/producer Ben Trebilcook for being so generous with his time! And if you’d like to stay updated on the project, follow Ben Trebilcook on Twitter.
I recently caught up with writer / producer Ben Trebilcook to discuss his upcoming new movie ‘Knockout’, a quirky martial arts thriller, to be shot in the US early 2014. A few months ago, it was globally reported that Ben was writing ‘Die Hardest’, the sixth and possibly last movie in the ‘Die Hard’ franchise.
Sam: Hi Ben, can you tell us a little about the plot and characters in your movie ‘Knockout’?
Ben Trebilcook: Hi Sam. The film is about a young woman, (Charlie), distraught from witnessing the murder of her parents as a child, develops her own unique martial art by playing video games. It’s because of this she suddenly finds herself embroiled in the world of underground fighting.
The film features a host of great martial arts and fight talent from around the world, including UFC and MMA stars and also the UK’s own Zara Phythian, who plays ‘Charlie’. Charlie lost her parents when she was young and ended up in foster care, shutting the rest of the world out by playing video games, eventually forming her own quirky martial art. When she’s 18, Charlie is living in a dirty, noisy and very dangerous hostel. It gets too much for her and she runs away.
This is when she meets ‘Danielle’, to be played by Mischa Barton.
Sam: How did you get Mischa involved?
Ben Trebilcook: A few years back, I wrote a script for Mischa, which her mother, Nuala and I were going to produce together. It was a big spy film, like a female James Bond. Finance talks fell apart and we all moved on to other projects. There was a lot of interest in ‘Knockout’ and it soon took center stage. The first person I thought to play the other female lead was Mischa, so I got in back touch with her mom and went from there.
Sam: What can you tell us about the character Mischa plays?
Ben Trebilcook: She plays ‘Danielle Kaffee’, a nurse. We first see her in complete distress. A little drunk and being harassed by several guys in a very eerie part of town. She fends off a couple and, well, if you’ve been out late to a bar, are tired, have had a bit to drink, you’re going to be disorientated and certainly won’t be on top-form. Anyway, Zara Phythian’s character, Charlie, appears and helps her out considerably. Mischa’s Danielle, being the caring character she is, offers to clean up this oddball, dirty homeless looking girl and a place to stay, however, Danielle’s boyfriend turns up and, let’s just say he owes a lot of money to a local gangster and sees Charlie’s fighting skills a means to an end.
Sam: So, does Mischa get to fight in the movie?
Ben Trebilcook: There’s definitely some scenes which would require Mischa’s character to protect herself! Danielle isn’t keen on the idea of Charlie being used and doesn’t feel comfortable in the environments she finds herself in. The fights are in unusual places and the fighters are match them.
Sam: Can you tell us anything about the fighters?
Ben Trebilcook: Sure! We’ve got another Miesha, as in Miesha Tate. She’s a super-tough UFC talent. In fact, her main rival has just been snapped up to be in the next Fast and the FuriousIs trial check generic nexium me. Cheaper I some viagra price lasted using how http://www.captaincove.com/lab/viagra-online-without-prescription.html Clinique moms couple for salvi-valves.com azithromycin side effects fun. movie. I think they’ve got the wrong girl, because Miesha is so brilliant and looks amazing on film. We’ve got Kyle Kingsbury, another UFC star and I’m on the look out for a massive, Hulk of a brute. Perhaps a bodybuilder. Someone ridiculously huge and scary. I’ve brought in a British guy called Neil Fingleton, who is one of Europe’s tallest men. He’ll fight Zara and Mischa.
Sam: Who have you got playing Mischa Barton’s boyfriend in the movie?
Ben Trebilcook: Actually, that role hasn’t been cast yet. He’ll be in his twenties and called ‘Frank’. It was going to be Sean Brosnan, but he pulled out. I don’t know. I’m sure fans of your website would come up with someone.
Sam: And lastly, on your Twitter, when talking about the movie, you hashtag #PressStartToFight what does this mean?
Ben Trebilcook: Ha, it’s a reference to how Zara’s character, Charlie, views her opponents. When she’s about to fight, she sees it all as a video game and obviously, in games, you sometimes have text on screen saying Press Start To Fight. It’s also a cool line Mischa Barton would say in the script, telling Zara to do just that.
Sam: There’s no confirmed shooting or release date yet for the movie, but we’ll keep you posted on any updates. Ben can be found on www.twitter.com/BenTrebilcook
The Media Eye reports that Mischa has signed with public relations firm PMK BNC. I think Mischa has been running without a personal publicist for quite a while, so this is an exciting move. With a slew of movies in the works plus the Mischa Barton brand, it’ll be great to have some extra support. PMK BNC has offices in LA, New York and London although the report says that Mischa’s contact will be Jill Fritzo in the New York office.
According to IMDb, Jill Fritzo represents some high profile clients including Katherine Heigl, Kristin Chenoweth, Vanessa Hudgens,
Denise Richards, Nicholas Sparks, the Kardashian sisters and some rising stars including AnnaSophia Robb and Nolan Gerard Funk.
Mischa Barton, Ryan Eggold star in Mark Edwin Robinson’s romantic thriller, bowing in October
Epic Pictures Releasing, the distribution arm of L.A.-based Epic Pictures Group, has picked up worldwide rights to Mark Edwin Robinson’s romantic thriller “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” for a fall theatrical release.
Pic stars Mischa Barton as a woman who, reeling from the death of her parents, becomes attached to an alluring man (Ryan Eggold) whose sudden disappearance sends her and her friends into a haunted high-rise to find him. Leah Pipes and Jaz Martin also appear in the film, which has played the Hollywood Film Festival and the Manhattan Film Festival.
A Castlight production, “I Will Follow” is exec produced by Mark Darling, David C. Robinson and R. Jeffrey Conner alongside producers Christine Holder, Mark Holder and Danny Roth.
Epic Pictures Releasing initially launched as a distributor of Epic Pictures Group’s own content but has since expanded to included other titles such as “I Will Follow.” The f ilm and TV sales company — which finances, produces and distributes commercial features and 3D animated pics — has released a string of genre films including “11-11-11,” “Space Dogs 3D” and “V/H/S” (non-U.S.). The company recently exec produced “Vikingdom 3D,” produced “Big Ass Spider!” and is currently in production on the sequel to “Space Dogs.”
“I Will Follow You Into the Dark” is set to open in theaters Oct. 11.
It looks like Mischa Barton isn’t ready — yet– for a reunion with The O.C. cast. Playing the lead role of Marissa Cooper from 2003-2006 until her character’s untimely death at the end of Season 3, a glowing and trimmed down Barton opened up about a possible reunion just days after the FOX teen soap celebrated its 10-year anniversary.
“You know — never say never,” Barton, 27, told Us Weekly at the Cosmopolitan Summer Bash in Hollywood, Calif. on Saturday, Aug. 10. “But, I think things have to feel right and it doesn’t feel right. You can’t say that you feel one way or another about things, but before The O.C. I was on track to do some great films, as well, and one things happens and then I got this mega stardom all from this show. It is what it is, but I’m not looking to get sucked back into the limelight of it.”
Though the series proved to be breakout roles for Barton and her cast mates Benjamin McKenzie, Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson, she admits that she hasn’t stayed close with the actors. “I don’t,” she said of keeping in touch. “I mean, I run into people every once in a while, but I’m doing my own thing. I work a lot, so I feel like I’m never around in L.A. and I know that Ben and Rachel work on shows here.”
As for the 10-year anniversary, “I was like, ‘I hope everyone doesn’t start watching it again!'” she exclaimed.

Photos of Mischa looking amazing at Cosmopolitan’s Summer Bash at Palihouse in West Hollywood have been added. Pictured with Mischa are Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles and Entertainment Director Dana Stern Schwartz.
I almost can’t believe the amount of projects Mischa is attached to star in this year! The latest to be added to the list is a movie called Disengaged that Mischa briefly mentioned on Twitter back in June. I wasn’t able to find any details back then, but an early website and Stage32 profile have recently come online touting Mischa’s involvement.
Other cast members attached to the project are: Martin Sheen, Denise Richards and Mena Suvari. Mischa also mentioned Adrian Grenier’s involvement in her initial tweet, but his name is not listed on either site.
The synopsis is as follows:
During an undercover drug deal that turns fatal, two police officers of different divisions are forced to compromise their integrity by a split second decision to plant evidence. A rigorous investigation by Internal Affairs Detective Jessica Pierson is far reaching and affects everyone, including the devastated mother of the young boy that was shot and killed during the bust. A street gangster witness to the shooting who now struggles to leave the gang life, while being hunted by a rogue drug addicted narcotics officer. The Captain of the LAPD treads carefully during the investigation as a young Assistant DA discovers details that threaten his chances of becoming Police Chief. Meanwhile, the recently recruited police officer that pulled the trigger is overwhelmed with guilt and the stress of his expectant wife. Events unfold and relationships unravel, forcing dangerous decisions that put everyone and their families at risk. Morals and values hang in the balance as Jessica Pierson uncovers the real truth and has to decide what is right.
At this stage all the actors are only listed as rumored, so unlike most of Mischa’s other upcoming projects, this one appears to be a little more tentative. But the plot sounds very interesting and the cast list is exciting, so I hope this goes ahead.
