Krista in Lafayette Hill, Pa.: Is it true that the CW has decided to air the rest of the episodes of The Beautiful Life later this season? If for some miracle the ratings increased would they bring it back full time?
A representative for the CW tells us, “The status of unaired eps of The Beautiful Life is still to be determined.” My rock-solid source who knows about such things tells me: No truth whatsoever. Sorry, Mischa!
While her future in television seemed quite uncertain, it looks as if Mischa Barton has finally gotten a bit of a break. After her Ashton Kutcher produced CW series, “The Beautiful Life,” was pulled off of the air after only two episodes, the latest reports tell that the series has been given new life.
Not going as far as filming any further episodes, insiders tell that there are plans to air the remaining already-filmed material later this season.
“The Beautiful Life” is based on the fast-paced New York modeling world, with Mischa hoping that the show may catch on with the public, hence, providing future television work.
Mischa Barton’s “The Beautiful Life” may have been short-lived, but the actress said the canceled CW series showed a lot of promise. In fact, she says, the best was yet to come.
“We were really such a great show and the first two episodes were nothing. We shot amazing, big episodes – episodes four, five and six – and it’s stuff that no one will ever see,” she told Access Hollywood at Monday night’s Whitney Museum gala in New York City.
“But they were unable to bring in an audience to it. It’s like they’ve got two other franchises going on there at the same time, and we got swallowed up,” she added of The CW. “It’s more their loss, I think. It could’ve been I think a really, really cool show.”
And while the show may not have survived very long, Mischa said she was appreciative of the fans who hopped on board the “Beautiful” bandwagon while they could.
“It was really sweet after [the show was canceled] because all these people Twittered the next day, like 10,000 people Twittered trying to save the show and stuff,” Mischa continued. “It reminded me how important the core fan base is. Whatever bulls**t gets written, you know you’ve got fans out there who care.”
As for Mischa herself, who said she is “moving on” and looking at various film and TV scripts, following the series’ cancellation, she is enjoying adjusting to life spent on the East Coast.
“I’m loving it!” she said of staying in New York. “All my girlfriends live here, so it’s nice to be bi-coastal and just go back and forth. I’m not giving up on Los Angeles, of course, but you know.”
Mischa Barton, More Shake Up Whitney Gala
When Mischa Barton rolls into the Whitney Museum of American Art Gala held Monday in NYC, she doesn’t stay long. The former O.C. star makes a mad dash outside for a cigarette with a glamorous blonde friend 45 minutes later.
Smoking is a needed vice for the 23-year-old who saw her TV dreams resurrected and destroyed when The Beautiful Life was canceled last month.
“Before I was looking to make that show interesting, and that’s why it sucks that no one’s going to see the best episodes of it,” she says. “And now I’m changing course and what I feel like doing is a really interesting, young woman role.”
She continues, “I’m keeping my options open, obviously, but it’s too early to say [what's next]. I don’t know what it’s going to be – I have to read through tons of scripts. You have no idea what an ordeal it is before you agree to something.”
Getting gym time with girlfriends keeps her spirits up. “I work out at Equinox,” she says. “Equinox is the best. It’s got everything. I do all kinds of stuff.”
One of the Directors for The Beautiful Life has written up a blog on his website about his experiences shooting episode 5 of The Beautiful Life. He has also included screencaps of various scenes from the episode. Mischa looks seriously BEAUTIFUL and the shots themselves are visually stunning. Click here to read the blog. He also mentions Mischa specifically in this quote:
In particular, Mischa Barton is a joy to work with, and her eyes are so expressive–she reminds me of a silent film actress. I also feel great sentimental attachment to her as she was one of the first people I worked with when I started directing on THE O.C.
