The Science of Cool to begin production Summer 2011
Posted in Movies, The Science of CoolHumanistic Films has announced a summer 2011 start date for the high school movie The Science of Cool. Steve Guttenberg, Kiowa Gordon (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), and Eden Sher (The Middle) have joined the cast, which includes The O.C. co-stars Mischa Barton and Willa Holland, Drew Van Acker (Tower Prep), Guy Kent (The Day the Music Died), Matt Dallas (Kyle XY), and Rumer Willis (Sorority Row). The plot centers on “two high school nerds who discover a secret chemical formula when a science experiment goes terribly wrong that transforms them into the coolest kids in school; but with greatness comes great consequences.”

The film has been in development for a few years now — Eric and Patricia Goren first wrote the script in 2008. At one point Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) and Jeremy Sumpter (Friday Night Lights) were attached, but sadly both dropped out due to prior commitments. William Zabka is on board to direct.

Very interesting cast list as Mischa has existing connections with many of these people. Most notably, Mischa starred with Willa Holland in The OC. She also appeared with Matt Dallas in the music video for James Blunt’s Goodbye My Lover. Additionally, Mischa is due to star with Kiowa Gordon in “Into the Darkness” which is also supposed to shoot Summer 2011. And even though they haven’t worked together on screen, I’m sure Mischa is familiar with Rumer Willis due to her connections with Bruce Willis, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.

I’m so excited to see Mischa and Willa reunited again♥
I wonder if she’s still attatched. Isn’t she kind of old to play a high school student? Plus, if she does this, then I don’t see how she can do Into the Darkness and The Hen Do, which are also suppose to be filmed during the summer (and I’d rather see her in those movies than this). But who knows.
It’s unclear what her character will be so it’s possible she won’t be playing a student.
Regarding filming, I believe the production schedule for this movie is only around 25 days. Indie horror movies like Into the Darkness also typically have quite short production deadlines so it is definitely possible for Mischa to wrap both during the Summer. I guess it will all come down to scheduling and who has first dibs on her participation.
I’ve not seen an estimated production date for The Hen Do but I think the project is just a British telemovie, so I doubt that would have a huge scheduling commitment.
